Here’s an install of a Richardson texas air conditioning system. We installed a Lennox 16 SEER Gas system. This was an interesting install because it started off as a repair but the system was approaching 11 years old which isn’t that old and had several parts go bad at once due to the stress on the system.
The first thing we noticed was the attic which was way too hot for equipment to really function up there. And from our teams perspective we didn’t think the unit was installed correctly. Which is why it’s important to make sure you go with a reputable company. After attempting to repair some parts in the furnace and out on the condenser the customers wanted to move forward with a new unit because of the cost of the repairs vs a new system with a 10 year warranty.
The first thing we had to do was cool down the temperature of the attic. See the thermal imaging pictures below. It shows you how hot it was in the attic at 1pm
This attic was very hot. The outside of the ducting was registering 150F. It’s hard to maintain 55 degree air with 100F temperature difference.
This attic was very hot. The ceiling in the house was registering 101. This was only hours after the HVAC not working.
This attic was very hot. The underside of the roof deck was registering 170 degrees and hotter in some places.
Soffit vents were added in the eaves of the attic to help reduce the heat gain by providing more airflow to the attic. Temperature dropped in the attic by 40 degrees.
